Dr. Cherrell Shelley-Robinson, as a leading expert on Caribbean young people’s literature, has not only lectured extensively on the subject but has also written three fiction books and several short stories. Her first book was Manny and the Mermaid, a picture book, followed by two full length novels, Jojo’s Treasure Hunt for preteens and now Tara’s Family Secrets for adolescents.
She has always been passionate about the importance of indigenous literature for developing self-esteem and nurturing the spirits of Caribbean young people. Consequently, in her writing, she strives to make the stories not only entertaining but also authentic in reflecting Caribbean culture. Dr. Shelley-Robinson has won local awards for her writing and has conducted many workshops on writing for young people and motivating them to read.
